HAWKSMOOR’S INVESTMENT STYLE
Our motivation is simply to increase the wealth of our clients. Hawksmoor’s investment process is firmly based on collective investments, both ‘open-‘ and ‘closed-ended’ funds, rather than direct equities. We have a highly disciplined approach to fund research and selection and we believe that this approach gives a private client investment manager such as Hawksmoor the best opportunities for creating value.
We believe that a funds-based approach best suits the vast majority of private client portfolios. The greatly enhanced diversification of such an approach, together with the rigorous fund selection process and active management, provides an ideal balance between risk and return.
This philosophy forms the cornerstone of Hawksmoor’s ‘common sense’ investment process and our belief that it is quite possible to achieve above-average investment performance without taking on unnecessary risk.
Where we buy open-ended funds for our clients’ portfolios, we always look to buy ‘institutional’ units, which tend to have lower costs than a fund’s mainstream retail units. Where this is not possible, we usually buy retail funds ‘at creation’. In each case, this minimises the ‘costs-on-costs’ effect of a funds-based approach.
